Ode to my first socks.

Determined!
My first socks
Tiny threads on little sticks…
Can it be possible? Cast-on taking days..
Finally, my dpn’s formed into a triagle, my knitting starts!
Round and round, my sock grows into a realized dream!
I worry as I start the heel flap
Then suddenly, it really is turned!
Final steps…. Kitchener!
Success!

Shoot.
Miscrossed the cable
And it’s the third time.
This pattern hasn’t settled in my brain,
I can’t feel its rhythm in my fingers just yet.
Take a break, I’ll come back to it later …
… Now I’ll pick it back up and see.
I think I can hear it,
My fingers feel it.
Let’s knit.

Such tactile pleasure!

Such gorgeous colors I see;
Such raw potential present in each skein.

Entering the shop, I am enthralled by so much choice.
I don’t know how to stop myself from touching them
or squeezing them like Mr. Whipple and Charmin.

I take a deep, cleansing breath.
I check my wallet -
I shop!

“Knit purl slip purl knit” is Making.
Frick a stick slipped! Sloppy sliding, twisting stitches, passes fumbled,
Dance steps muddled. Missed, but not yet lost: heartbeat rhythm.
My pulse saves me; my beats guide me
Back to packing each stitch smoothly
Knit purl purl knit
… and slipped.

The garter stitch scarf

Mom’s
yarn and needles
and patience — I learned knitting.
And once I understood the knit/purl
I thought that was all the skill I’d ever need.
One simple garter stitch scarf, striped brown, white, and coral.
Ugly, but I flung it around my neck
Proud of myself and my creation
It matched the coat
I wore.

The perfect pattern
eludes me despite best efforts.
Cast on, rip back, try again, oops.
I’ve used search engines and lurked in forums and groups.
How long must I look before my efforts are rewarded?
Don’t get me wrong, the ones I’ve seen
are nice, if only yarn cooperated.
Will I give up?
Absolutely not

She doesn’t notice my watchful gaze

It started innocently.
And somehow’s taken complete control.
Never just say no, rather more,,, more…
Always seeking, duplicating, combining, aquiring, more and more but then……
When the dust settled, the parcels ceased, shopping carts empty.
Like a dreamer I shook off the sleep.
The funds gone, the house mortgaged.
The purchasing was complete……

Malabrigo…
Pure merino wool.
Soft intense strands of color.
I love the subtle changes of hue.
My shinning needles lovingly slide into the purples and pinks
caressing the handspun and hand dyed fibers without any care
about the creative hands of women in Uruguay.
I breathe in the rough beauty.
As my anxiety lifts
I smile.
